Canvas does allow instructors the flexibility of overriding that column in the Gradebook to allow for discretion in assigning final grades! This overridden final total retains the actual calculated score in the Instructor view (but not the student’s view) and does so without having to adjust scores on individual assignments or activities.

Follow these steps to enable and use the Final Grade Override feature in Canvas:

In your course navigation menu, select Settings.
Select the Feature Options tab at the top of the Settings page.
Select the Final Grade Override selector to change it from the Blue X (disabled) to the Green Check Mark (enabled).

In your course navigation menu, select Grades
At the top-right of the Gradebook, select the gear icon for settings
In the dialogue box, select the Advanced tab
Check or activate the Allow final grade override box
Select Update.
There will now be an Override column next to the Total column in your Gradebook. You may select a box in this column and enter an override to the total grade, which will then appear to the students on their Grades page. You may select the Override cell and use the delete key on your keyboard to remove the override score.
